Amul to set up the world’s biggest curd plant in Kolkata

11 Feb 2025

The dairy giant will invest ₹600 crore in setting up a manufacturing plant in the city.

Amul’s ₹600 crore (USD 68.6 million) new facility to be set up in Sankrail Food Park, Howrah, Kolkata, will produce 10 lakh kilograms (1,000 metric tonnes) of curd and process 1.5 million litres of milk daily. Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited will set up the plant in two phases.

The project is part of the Ministry of Cooperation’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative to strengthen the dairy cooperative movement in West Bengal.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), the owner of Amul, exports to almost 50 nations. A report by the International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN) ranks Amul 8th worldwide in milk processing among the top 20 global dairy companies.

The organisational turnover increased by 8% in 2023-24 to ₹59,445 crore. It foresees a double-digit revenue growth this year. GCMMF procured milk from more than 1.2 lakh women dairy producers in West Bengal’s 14 districts.
