Reliance Retail brings Shein back to India

3 Feb 2025

It relaunched the app as Shein India Fast Fashion on Saturday.

Isha and Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail struck a licensing deal with the Chinese fashion app Shein. Reliance will pay a licensing fee to use Shein’s brand name and offer its products on a dedicated app. The Indian manufacturers will supply local products under Shein’s brand name.

Reliance offers international brands on its homegrown Ajio app.

The deal allows Reliance to retain complete control over the platform and operations while Shein can act only as a technology partner. All customer data will be locally stored in India, and Shein will not have access to it. Shein will undergo regular security audits by government-certified cybersecurity firms.

Shein is now available in Google and Apple Play Stores. They started deliveries in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Bengaluru. PAN India shipping will begin soon.

Shein, headquartered in Singapore, was banned in India in 2020 after escalated geopolitical tensions between India and China.
