It plans to become India's second largest paints business with a revenue of ₹10,000 crore and turn profitable within three years of operations.
Aditya Birla launched a decorative paints business, Birla Opus, on Thursday under Grasim Industries. It intends to compete with Asian Paints, Berger, and new entrants, like Astral, JSW, and Pidilite, in the ₹80,000 crore industry. The company will operate six manufacturing units and plans to add at least 40% to the country’s annual capacity of 1,332 million litres.
Birla Opus plans to build a capacity higher than its competitors in the first year. It commissioned three plants in Panipat (Haryana), Ludhiana (Punjab), and Cheyyar (Tamil Nadu) that will account for 50% of its total capacity. It will launch three more plants in Mahad (Maharashtra), Chamarajanagar (Karnataka), and Kharagpur (West Bengal) by FY2025.
In 2021, Aditya Birla announced its entry with a ₹10,000 crore investment. It has invested ₹5,000 crore till now. By March, it will announce pricing and launch products in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Haryana.
