Apple to source iPhones from India for US

5 May 2025

iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods will be sourced from Vietnam.

Apple estimates a $900-million cost increase due to tariffs in the June quarter. Focussing on diversifying its sources, Apple announced its plans to source most iPhones from India in the June quarter for selling in the US.

Over 50% of the iPhones sold in the US in the March quarter were sourced from India. 3.1 million iPhones worth ₹48,000 crore were exported to the US in the March quarter compared to ₹28,500 crore in the same period last year. 98% of the iPhone exports from India were to the US.

China would remain the top-selling destination for Apple products outside the US. Apple set a quarterly sales record in India.

Most Apple products, like Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, are excluded from global reciprocal tariffs announced by the Trump administration in April.

Counterpoint Research estimates that around 30% of global iPhone shipments will be from India this year.
