Emergency mock drill on May 7th

6 May 2025

This is the first mock drill after 1971, when India and Pakistan last went to war.

244 districts across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, and Meghalaya will undergo the mock drill on May 7th.

It will include air-raid siren activation to alert people in case of aerial threats, blackouts to mimic wartime stealth procedures, cleaning and inspection of underground bunkers, operationalising communication with the Indian Air Force, camouflaging critical installations like power plants, training civilians in first aid, firefighting, emergency shelter use, evacuation rehearsals for civilians, simulating backup command centres.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is supervising the nationwide drill. It is part of civil defence efforts under the Civil Defence Rules, 1968. The MHA instructed district authorities for coordination, home guards, and civil defence wardens for ground operations, and NCC, NSS volunteers, members of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, and students to raise awareness and support.
