Five semiconductor facilities get ISM nod, Applied Materials to set up R&D

The world’s second-biggest equipment manufacturer for semiconductor fabrication units, Applied Materials Inc., is ready to invest $400 million in India.

India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) approved five semiconductor units. Meanwhile, Applied Materials Inc. is spearheading talks with many domestic and global suppliers to establish an R&D unit in the country.


Of the five approved units, Micron Technology is establishing a facility in Sanand, Gujarat, and will roll out the first chip in 2025. Tata Electronics is developing the second facility in Dholera, Gujarat, in association with Taiwanese Powerchip Semiconduction Manufacturing Corp. Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test (TSAT) will develop a facility in Morigaon, Assam, with a capacity of 48 million chips a day.


CG Power, Japan’s Renesas Electronics Corp, and Thailand’s Stars Microelectronics will together establish a facility in Sanand to produce 15 million chips daily. Mysuru-based Kaynes Semicon will build a facility in Sanand with a capacity of 63 lakh chips daily.
