Foreign Secretary Misri visits the US to continue trade talks

8 Apr 2026

At the same time, the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, met with the President, the Vice President, and the FBI Director.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s three-day visit to Washington, DC, comes at a strategically sensitive moment for India–US relations. He will meet senior US officials to review cooperation across trade, defence, science and technology, and global developments.

The recent Indo-US trade deal was finalised over a phone call between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump and announced on February 2. However, it was never formally signed. It was put on hold after a US court struck down Trump‑era tariffs, leaving both sides to reassess the path forward.

Misri’s visit coincides with a two‑week ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran, which is critical to India’s energy and security interests.

Meanwhile, Sergio Gor’s parallel meetings hint at combined efforts to insulate India-US relations from the global geopolitical landscape.

The Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited the US in February, signalling sustained high‑level engagement.
