The blow came on the same day when Elon Musk announced his exit from the Trump Administration.
On May 29th, Elon Musk announced the end of his term as a Special Government Employee, who can serve the government up to 130 days.
He criticised the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This bill extends provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that reduce the corporate and individual tax rates and deduct $1 trillion from programs like Medicaid and SNAP Food Assistance. It was passed by the House and awaits Senate approval now.
The US Court of International Trade declared the 10% baseline tariffs issued on April 2 unlawful. Trump is the first President to use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to justify his tariffs.
The panel noted that Trump did not have the authority to use IEEPA to impose tariffs, and it violates constitutional limits on presidential power. The Trump administration filed an appeal with the US Federal Court against the ruling.
