The map shows Arunachal’s southern boundary with Assam as a “Chinese Line” and its northern boundary with Tibet as an “Indian Line”.
After India supported the United Nations’ “Correct the Map” resolution on September 4th, the UN released a world map depicting Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin with separate Indian and Chinese claim lines.
Aksai Chin is marked with distinct Indian and Chinese lines, despite India officially considering the region part of Ladakh. The map marks the region’s eastern boundaries as an “Indian Line” and uses a “Chinese Line” that appears to demarcate Ladakh from Aksai Chin.
The map depicts Jammu and Kashmir with a dotted line representing the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan. While the map includes an explanatory note for the LoC, no such clarification accompanies the India‑China claim lines. It also shows the Nepal‑claimed Kalapani region under Indian control.
The MEA stressed that its vote does not endorse any specific map and that India’s sovereign territory must align with its official cartography.
