The Unified Code for Pharma Marketing Practices (UCPMP) prohibits pharmaceutical companies from bribing doctors with paid foreign trips and hospitality stays, personal gifts for them and family members, monetary gifts for doctors, agents or distributors, or any cash payments or grants for doctors and their family members. It mandates that individual companies disclose any sponsorships for conferences and medical courses. However, there is no portal setup to report this. Industry experts believe this Code will be less effective since it is non-statutory and not enforced by a regulatory authority. It is not a law, and players in the Indian pharmaceutical industry will easily beat around it to incentivise medical professionals. Pharma associations need to form an ethics committee and create a portal linked to the pharma department, which will house an independent panel to audit such expenses. Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology (SSST), une entreprise publique chinoise va lancer le premier lot de satellites pour rivaliser avec le réseau internet mondial de Starlink, une compagnie de SpaceX appartenant à Elon Musk. Les pays déploient les satellites dans orbite terrestre pour rivaliser et pour des applications militaires. Le lancement s’appelle Thousand Miles Constellation ou G60 Starlink Plan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch an autonomous body, Mera Yuva Bharat, on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31st. The Union Cabinet approved the establishment earlier this month. Its website, called MYBharat, will be a platform to connect ministries with the Indian youth. It aims to enable youth between 15 and 29 years of age to learn social innovation and leadership skills through experiential learning. It will focus on programmatic skills instead of isolated physical interaction. The initiative seeks to harness youth’s energy in nation-building. Creating a centralized youth database will offer access to resources and opportunities. It will build a physical-digital ecosystem to empower youth and help them be a bridge between the government and other citizens. The Department of Youth Affairs recently hosted the ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’ program, which saw 50 million youths plant 23 million saplings to create Amrit Vatikas across India. Previous Next

From the early to mid-2000s, TV platforms like Sony, Star, Viacom18, and Zee engaged in a bidding war to secure a movie’s streaming rights, sometimes before it went into production. OTT followed the same practice. Online streaming platforms offered a price based on the box office figures of the lead actor’s last movie. Since projections are not working now, OTT platforms are striking staggered deals in parts. They pay a percentage before theatrical release, and the contracts offer them the option to terminate the agreement in case of commercial failure. OTT platforms still buy big titles at a negotiated price but refrain from absorbing duds in their catalogue. They also decline deals on the grounds that films do not meet their standards. < Back India signs first-ever deal with the US to import LPG 17 Nov 2025 Indian public sector companies signed a one-year contract to import LPG from the US. India’s public sector companies will import 2.2 million tonnes of LPG in 2026, which amounts to around 10% of the country's annual LPG imports. The LPG will be sourced from the US Gulf Coast. The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, called it a ‘Historic first’. Executives from Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum recently travelled to the US to discuss the deal with major American producers. To date, India imports 90% of its LPG from suppliers in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia alone supplies one-third of India’s imports. India occasionally turned to the US due to logistical and pricing reasons, as well as trade dynamics. The Union Minister shared how global LPG prices soared by 60% last year, but Ujjawala scheme beneficiaries paid ₹500–550 per cylinder, against the actual cost of ₹1,100. < Back India updates plastic waste management rules 8 Jul 2025 The Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2025, were formulated by the Ministry of Environment. India’s Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is implementing new pollution control rules from July 1st. These regulations mandate that all plastic packaging have a barcode, a QR code or a unique ID linked to CPCB registration. The Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs) will comply with Rule 11 that mandates enhanced labelling and traceability for packages. The CPCB will publicly list compliant parties. There will be daily escalating fines for non-compliance, as well as conviction for repeated and serious violations. This is bound to enhance accountability for companies that fall under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. The aim is to curb plastic pollution and encourage companies to enhance their recycling infrastructure, such as PET recycling plants, and utilise AI-based sorting, as seen in Google’s CircularNet model, which Saahas Zero Waste uses. < Back India-EU FTA to simplify Schengen Visa Applications 29 Jan 2026 Indians can expect a faster, more predictable, less bureaucratic Schengen process, although not a guaranteed approval. The India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will phase out tariffs on over 97% of EU exports to India and grant preferential access to 99% of Indian exports to the EU. It could increase bilateral trade by 41–65% and raise incomes by 0.12–0.13% of GDP in both regions. As part of the FTA, the EU has committed to modernising and simplifying Schengen visa procedures through full digitalisation, reducing long processing times and document‑verification issues that currently hinder Indian travellers. EU–India trade has grown by ~90% in the last decade. In 2024, EU exports to India reached €48.8 billion. Indian IT, textiles, chemicals, machinery, agriculture, and processed foods sectors gain preferential access to the EU’s high-value market. The European firms benefit from reduced Indian tariffs and clearer regulatory frameworks. India and the EU together represent 21.1% of global GDP and 23.4% of the world’s population. < Back India 1st hydrogen-powered train to launch on Jan 26 7 Jan 2026 The train will be launched on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana. The train, designed and built indigenously at ICF Chennai, is expected to reach speeds of up to 110 km/h. It is among the world’s most powerful hydrogen locomotives with an output of 2,400 kW across its two power cars. Although Germany and China already run hydrogen trains, India’s hydrogen train is the longest built for broad gauge (5ft 6 in). The project is a collaboration between Indian Railways, the Research, Design & Standards Organisation (RDSO), and Spanish partner Green H. It has two driver power cars and eight metro-style passenger coaches. The train aims to reduce diesel consumption and pollution significantly. Trial runs have been completed successfully. After the pilot run, a joint performance report will be submitted to the central government to determine the feasibility of wider deployment across India.
