  • US Federal Trade Commission Tapestry’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri | Salestors.com

< Back US Federal Trade Commission Tapestry’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri 26 Apr 2024 The acquisition will unite six luxury brands, including Tapestry’s Kate Spade, Coach, and Stuart Weitzman, with Capri’s Versace, Jimmy Choo, and Michael Kors, under one entity. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) moved to prevent Tapestry, Inc.’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri Holdings Limited. Tapestry wants to strengthen its foothold in the fashion industry by acquiring Capri. Kate Spade and Coach offer affordable items called accessible luxury accessories. As per the FTC, the combined entity will have no reason to be price competitive, thus forcing Americans to pay more for these items. This will dissolve the competition for affordable handbags, while wage workers may lose their benefits and favourable working conditions. The new company will compete directly with European luxury brands like Burberry and Louis Vuitton. It may record over $12 billion in annual revenue and a presence in over 75 nations. Tapestry announced the deal in August 2024 and received regulatory approval from Europe and Japan. It maintains that customers get ample options in every segment and the deal will not impact their buying power. Previous Next

  • Karnataka revises excise policy for liquor eff April | Salestors.com

< Back Karnataka revises excise policy for liquor eff April 6 Mar 2026 Liquor will be taxed based on the actual alcohol content in each beverage. Liquor stocks surged up to 7% after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a major excise policy revamp in the Karnataka Budget 2026. The overhaul shifts taxation to a system based on the actual alcohol content of each beverage and deregulates liquor pricing. This aligns with international standards followed by mature markets such as the UK, the EU, Australia, and parts of the US. Phasing is expected to take 3–4 years, giving manufacturers time to recalibrate. The revised structure will take effect from April 2026. The government will no longer fix prices, allowing manufacturers to set rates competitively within slabs and reducing liquor prices. United Spirits rose 7%, United Breweries and Tilaknagar Industries gained around 5%, Radico Khaitan jumped 6%, and Sula Vineyards, Allied Blenders, and Globus Spirits also advanced. Last year, the state raised Additional Excise Duty multiple times, hurting alcohol makers. Check out my new book, THE BLACK FLAMES . A gripping, high-stakes mystery. Previous Next

  • India, Singapore to collab for making semiconductor chips | Salestors.com

< Back India, Singapore to collab for making semiconductor chips 6 Sept 2024 Amid the tension between the US and China, India and Singapore signed a deal to collaborate to manufacture semiconductor chips and digital technologies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed several agreements during his two-day visit to Singapore to promote chip design and manufacturing and attract Singapore tech companies to invest in India. The two nations will also work closely in cybersecurity, supercomputing, AI, and fifth-generation mobile networks. The $588 billion global semiconductor chip market has been severely impacted by the US-China war. It has jolted many global economies to build independent domestic supply chains unhindered by geopolitical dynamics and attracting business opportunities, too. Singapore is home to some of Southeast Asia's biggest chip manufacturing plants, including Micron Technology Inc. and NXP Semiconductors NV, and many venture capitalists investing in chip startups. The Indo-Singaporean deal is a step towards making India a technological superpower, wherein semiconductor manufacturing will play a crucial role. The Indian government has planned a $21 billion investment to ramp up semiconductor capabilities, including $15 billion in chip manufacturing facilities nationwide. Previous Next

  • Despite capacity hikes, renewable energy facing admin, financial hurdles | Salestors.com

< Back Despite capacity hikes, renewable energy facing admin, financial hurdles 19 Mar 2025 India increased solar capacity by a record-breaking 24.5 GW and wind capacity by 3.4 GW in 2024. Towards the target of 500 GW of renewable power capacity by 2030, India doubled its solar capacity and pushed its wind capacity by 21% between 2023 and 2024. Solar power accounts for 47% of the total renewable installed capacity, with Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Gujarat leading the charts. However, 38.3 GW of renewable capacity was cancelled between 2020 and 2024. This occurred due to technical and location challenges, delays in signing power supply agreements and land acquisition, and tender design problems, such as tariff caps, unflexible contracts, and unrealistic bidding conditions that discouraged developers from participating in such projects. Payment delays from power distribution companies and financial instability also contributed to cancellations. Globally, continued expansion of renewable energy often leads to grid disturbances, oversupply, and negative energy prices (when producers pay consumers to consume excess electricity). China reduced subsidy-driven incentives, and Europe now restricts the promotion of renewables. Never miss another post from SalestorrsNews150. • Prada collabs with Indian leather industry after Kolhapuri controversy | Salestors.com

< Back Prada collabs with Indian leather industry after Kolhapuri controversy 11 May 2026 The controversy began in June 2025 when Prada showcased footwear matching Kolhapuri sandals on a Milan runway without credit to the original designers. Prada’s renewed Kolhapuri-inspired collection has reopened India’s long‑running debate on cultural appropriation and the weak protection of traditional crafts. The controversy after Prada’s Milan show last year sparked justified backlash for copying rather than inspiration. On April 27 th , 2026, Prada announced a collaboration with Indian government leather industry bodies, LIDCOM, LIDKAR, NIFT, and KILT and launched a three‑year artisan training program. However, the $900 price tag for the inspired Kolhapuri footwear, compared with the traditional $10–$30 range, has intensified criticism that the move feels like damage control rather than respect. It has also highlighted an urgent need for upgrading India’s Geographical Indication (GI) protection system. Although Kolhapuris received GI status in 2019, India’s fragmented GI system lacks the global clout of bodies like Comité Champagne, leaving artisans under‑protected and under‑compensated. < Back Road Ministry planning centralised hubs for all transportation modes 21 Aug 2024 The ministry aims to develop integrated public transport and terminals across India, combining road, rail, air, water, helipads, and ropeway modes of transport. • Govt launches AI-based National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) | Salestors.com

< Back Govt launches AI-based National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) 20 Aug 2024 The app will connect farmers with agricultural scientists to improve pest control measures. • Foreign companies prepare for a lawsuit against GST evasion notices | Salestors.com

< Back Foreign companies prepare for a lawsuit against GST evasion notices 23 Sept 2024 Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval (OIDAR) covers online services with or without a physical user interface and is subject to an 18% tax slab. OIDAR services were GST-exempt until an amendment took effect in October 2023, which made foreign companies liable to pay the tax. The revised law mandated that companies were liable to pay GST irrespective of the level of human intervention in rendering their digital services. As per the law, foreign organisations must register in India and pay GST to offer their services to Indians. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) issued tax evasion notices for the period between 2017 and 2023 to 70 foreign companies for providing OIDAR services in India. These companies include Meta, Netflix, Spotify, and Google across subscription-based services, advertising, online gaming, and edtech. The companies argue that their services involve human intervention and can be delivered offline, which was GST-exempt before the amendment. Online training and exam platforms say their services are not covered under OIDAR. They will soon file the case in the high court. Previous Next
