• Adani to start shipbuilding at Mundra Port | Salestors.com

< Back Adani to start shipbuilding at Mundra Port 9 Jul 2024 The decision is well-timed because fleet owners worldwide are looking for alternatives, and the ship-building yards in South Korea, Japan, and China are booked until 2028. India ranks 20th globally in commercial shipbuilding with a 0.05% market share. Its goal is to be among the top ten shipbuilders towards the Maritime India Vision 2030 and scale up to the top five by 2047. Befitting this ambition, Adani has planned to create a shipbuilding site at its flagship port at Mundra. Adani recently got approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change for a ₹45,000 crore expansion plan for Mundra Port. This gives the conglomerate the required resources to start supplying new vessels in a starved industry. The global shipping industry is shifting its focus to green ships to meet its decarbonisation goals. Over the next 30 years, approximately 50,000 green ships will need to be manufactured to replace the existing fleet. Global shipyards outbid Indian shipbuilders by up to 35%. Even governmental aids in taxes and duties fail to reduce this cost difference. Previous Next

  • Google turns back on its privacy promise; third-party cookies will stay | Salestors.com

< Back Google turns back on its privacy promise; third-party cookies will stay 24 Jul 2024 Google launched the Privacy Sandbox project in 2019 to replace the third-party trackers in its Chrome browser and allow advertisers to target users with appropriate ads. Third-party cookies record and share user information across websites visited. While Safari and Firefox banned these cookies years ago, Google tried to find a way to give advertisers access to user information and its users the option to choose their level of privacy. Google gets 80% of its revenue from advertising. It launched Privacy Sandbox in 2019 to be released within two years. It would shift the control of online user tracking from third-party trackers to Google Chrome. This would mean that ad-tech players and companies would not be able to track their ad performances. This opened the floodgates to several lawsuits and complaints filed with regulators and competition authorities against Google across the UK and the US. After repeated delays, Google announced on July 22nd that Chrome will continue to support third-party cookies while allowing users to block them, subject to approval from the UK-based Competition and Markets Authority. < Back How Shein and TikTok Shop are becoming global brands 17 Nov 2023 Shein is targeting sellers who find signing up on the Amazon marketplace cumbersome due to long applications and waiting times. TikTok Shop is also expanding to American sellers now. Chinese fashion portals Shein and TikTok Shop are targeting sellers in the US, especially Brazil and Mexico, who find signing up on bigger established portals like Amazon Marketplace challenging and tedious. With this move, these Chinese companies are inching towards becoming truly global brands. They can have international manufacturing and distribution without making any significant investment. Sellers are eagerly accepting Shein’s offer to leverage its strong eCommerce reputation, streamlined supply chain, and innovative delivery methods at a cheaper price. Lower advertising costs and better markup schemes are pulling American sellers to TikTok Shop. US Customs ‘de minimis’ rule allowed products below $800 to enter the country duty-free, with minimal customs checks. It was scrapped by a new Bill introduced in June 2023. Soon after, countries like Brazil imposed a 17% state tax on international shipments from cross-border sellers. However, Shein offered to cover this tax on purchases up to $50. Previous Next

  • Competition catches up with Tesla, global sales drop 13% | Salestors.com

< Back Competition catches up with Tesla, global sales drop 13% 4 Apr 2025 Rising competition in the EV market, an ageing lineup, and a backlash against Musk’s deepening political engagements are touted as the reasons. Tesla seems to be losing the race to fierce competition from established brands and emerging electric vehicle (EV) makers like BYD. BYD surpassed Tesla’s sales in Europe in 2024 by introducing ultra-fast charging and more affordable EV models. BYD sold 4.3 million compared to Tesla’s 1.79 million vehicles in 2024. Tesla also faced a dent in its reputation in Europe after Musk’s open support for controversial political figures, including Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD). A lack of any significant upgrades in its Model 3 and Model Y gave consumers another reason not to buy Tesla. As per the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Tesla’s new registrations declined by 49% to just over 19,000 units, and deliveries worldwide fell to 336,681 units between January and February 2025, compared to 387,000 in the same period in 2024. Even steep discounts and zero-interest financing had little effect in luring customers. Never miss another post from SalestorrsNews150.
