Panasonic est l’un dans les 15 parrains du comité international olympique qui a investi plus de deux milliards de dollars en quatre ans de Jeux. Toyota a également décidé de mettre fin au contrat qu’elle avait signé en 2015 pour 835 millions de dollars, le montant le plus élevé jamais atteint pour le comité. Elle prévoit toutefois de conserver son accord avec les Jeux paralympiques. Les parrains japonais ont probablement perdu leur intérêt en raison du retard pris par les Jeux olympiques de Tokyo 2020. Les supporters n’ont pas été autorisés à entrer les stades et de nombreux scandales de corruption ont également été révélés, ce qui a élevé les couts pour les sponsors. < Back BSE indices rejig from June 23 28 May 2025 Tata Trent will replace Nestle, while Bharat Electronics Limited will replace IndusInd Bank. BSE indices, including BSE 100, BSE Bankex, Sensex 50, and Sensex Next 50, are undergoing a major rejig effective June 23rd. The underperformers will be shifted to other indices. Similar changes will be effected in BSE 100, where Dixon Technologies (India), Indus Towers, and Coforge will replace Bharat Forge, Siemens, and Dabur India. In the Sensex 50, InterGlobe Aviation and Shirram Finance will replace Britannia Industries and Hero MotorCorp. Tata Trent will replace Nestle India, which has shown no growth in the past year. Nestle India is also undergoing a management change, with Manish Tiwary replacing Suresh Narayan as Managing Director effective August 1st. Sales grew at 7% annually in the past five years. The stock indices conduct periodic balancing as per the criteria set by the Asia Index, a BSE subsidiary. < Back Spicejet to launch seaplanes in 2025 13 Nov 2024 The carrier took a demo flight from Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to Srisailam Dam, Andhra Pradesh temple town. After first operating its seaplane route four years ago, Spicejet is ready to launch official seaplane services across key routes next year once proper infrastructure becomes available. It is licensed to operate seaplane services on 20 routes, including Hyderabad, Shillong, Guwahati, and Lakshadweep. Spicejet launched India’s first scheduled seaplane service in October 2020, connecting Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad, with the Statue of Unit in Kevadia, Gujarat. The service was later halted during the pandemic. Spicejet has participated in seaplane trials, offering engineering, logistical, and technical support to De Havilland, the aviation manufacturer. Spicejet had started a charter seaplane in Gujarat for a brief period in 2022, which could not be sustained. It plans to relaunch the stint in 2025 to leverage seaplanes to overcome infrastructural limitations and boost regional connectivity. L’Indonésie aspire à figurer parmi les leaders mondiaux de la production de batteries pour VE d’ici à 2027. Le lancement l’année dernier de son usine de batterie pour VE, la premier d’Asie du Sud-Est, a constitué un pas dans cette direction. L’usine est une coentreprise entre Indonesia Battery Corporation, LG et Hyundai. Les Etats-Unis et l’Europe ont rejeté les propositions Indonésiennes visant à y installer des usines de fabrication de batterie. Les principales raisons sont le non-respect des normes mondiales de développement durable et des droits des travailleurs, la faible demande intérieure de VE et l’évolution mondiale vers des batteries non basées sur l’oxyde de nickel. Par ailleurs, l’engagement de la Chine en Indonésie s'accroît. La Chine a investi plus de 65 milliards de dollars dans l’industrie indonésienne du nickel. < Back Merchant fees on UPI, RuPay debit cards may return 12 Mar 2025 Banks submitted a formal proposal to the government to reintroduce the charges. UPI and RuPay transactions are controlled by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Merchants pay the MDRs to banks for real-time payment processing. Before 2022, merchants had to pay banks a discount rate below 1% of the transaction value. It was removed in the FY2022 budget to promote digital payments, and it worked as UPI became the most widely used payment mode. The government is considering introducing a tiered pricing mechanism to charge the fee only to large businesses with annual GST turnover over ₹40 lakhs. The fee will be lower for smaller merchants, and free for those with a yearly turnover of less than ₹40 lakhs. Big retail businesses mostly use credit and debit cards for over half of their payments and pay MDR for the transactions. A minor fee on UPI payments would not have any significant impact. India secured 10th spot on the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI 2025), two spots down from the last time. The primary reasons are its low per capita emissions and rapid transition to renewable energy sources, especially large-scale solar infrastructure projects and the Rooftop Solar Scheme. Compared to the global average of 6.6 tons of carbon emissions, India’s per capita emissions are 2.9 tons. 63 nations, including the European Union, evaluated in the CCPI are responsible for 90% of the emissions. Germanwatch, Climate Action Network International, and the New Climate Institute assess the largest carbon emitters based on emissions, climate policy, and renewables and rank the nations. They leave the first three places empty as no country has been able to achieve a ‘very high’ rating, checking all criteria. Denmark is the highest-rated country, ranked fourth on the index. Quatre jours après que l’UE a approuvé des droits de douane sur les voitures électroniques chinoises, la Chine annonce des droits de douane sur les alcools européens. La taxe de 35,3 % sur les voitures chinoises entrera en vigueur à la fin du mois. Le ministère chinois du commerce a trouvé que le brandy européen faisait l’objet d’un dumping en chine ce qui porte préjudice aux fabricants locaux. Alors qu’UE enquête sur les exportations chinoises de voitures électroniques, la Chine a commencé une enquête antidumping sur la viande de porc, le brandy et les produits laitiers. Elle pourrait augmenter les tarifs sur les voitures importées équipées de gros moteurs. Cette action donne aux Chinois un levier pour négocier avec les Européens. Les fabricants français de cognac et de liqueurs comme l’Armagnac ont été parmi les premières visées. Le France soutient l’enquête européenne sur les VE chinoises, l’Allemagne s’y oppose. < Back PARAM Rudra supercomputers, High Performance Computing launched across India 27 Sept 2024 Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the supercomputers in Delhi, Kolkata, and Pune on Thursday via video call. Three supercomputers developed in India for ₹130 crore have been deployed in Delhi, Kolkata, and Pune to facilitate breakthrough research in various scientific fields. They were created under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). The Inter-University Accelerator Centre in Delhi will use the supercomputer to further research in material science and atomic physics. The Giant Metre Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Pune will use the newly installed supercomputer to explore astronomical phenomena, like Fast Radio Bursts. The S.N. Bose Centre in Kolkata will boost research in earth sciences, physics, and cosmology. These machines will significantly push AI and machine learning in India. The Prime Minister also revealed a High-Performance Computing (HPC) system, called ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika’, dedicated to climate and weather research. Developed with an investment of ₹850 crore, the HPC is located at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast, Noida, and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune. Previous Next

< Back Satcom an expensive alternative to broadband, fibre cable 9 May 2024 Bharti Airtel-backed OneWeb partnered with ISRO to launch 36 satellites into Earth’s orbit. Reliance Jio bought a majority stake in Skytran and SES for equipment. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are engaged in a war to introduce Satellite Communication (Satcom) in India. Airtel invested USD3.3 billion in OneWeb that tied up with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to launch 36 more satellites into the Earth’s lower orbit, bringing the total to 618. Reliance Jio acquired a majority stake in US-based Skytran in 2020 and bought Luxembourg-based SES in 2023 for USD 100 million for equipment and gateway. A Satcom 1 GB plan can cost the user ₹5,000 and the equipment ₹60,000. Hence, only big businesses may initially invest in this tech. Satcom is expected to offer good connectivity to remote areas, especially where fibre cable cannot reach. However, its signals travel large distances, thus taking time to reach the user and causing delays in live communication. < Back Rolling Stone, Variety owner sues Google over AI summaries 16 Sept 2025 This is the first time Google is being sued over AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of its search results. Penske Media, the owner of Rolling Stone, Variety, and Billboard, sued Google in the Washington, D.C., Federal Court. It claims that Google use its journalistic content without consent, thus reducing traffic to its websites. It alleges that around 20% of Google search results linked to Penske websites show AI overviews, and its revenue has fallen by over a third from 2024-end. Penske pointed out that Google includes publishers’ websites in search results only if it can use their content in AI summaries. It could impose such terms due to its search dominance. Without this, Google would end up paying the publishers for the right to republish their work or use it to train their AI systems. Penske attracts 120 million online visitors per month. Several news organisations have also argued that Google’s AI Overviews pull traffic away from their sites, thus hogging their ad and subscription revenue. L’UE a imposé des droits douaniers supplémentaires sur les VE fabriques en Chine en 2023 en invoquant des subventions gouvernementales déloyales qui profitent aux fabricants chinois et les aident à proposer des prix compétitifs sur le marché européen. BMW et Tesla ont déclare que les droits de douane pourraient influer sur les initiatives de transport zéro émission et réduire la disponibilité des VE en Europe. Ils fabriquent des VE en Chine et les droits de douane supplémentaires pourraient nuire à leurs ventes et à leur rentabilité.
