- Star India ends $1.5 billion ICC TV rights deal with Zee | Salestors.com
< Back Star India ends $1.5 billion ICC TV rights deal with Zee 2 Aug 2024 On March 14, Star filed arbitration proceedings against Zee Entertainment in the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). The termination of the Sony deal opened the floodgates for Zee Entertainment. As an independent channel, Zee wouldn’t have been able to service the International Cricket Council (ICC) TV rights deal with Star India. Consequently, it did not go ahead with the four-year alliance it had signed with Star on August 26, 2022, for the period of 2024-27. Zee maintains that the alliance was subject to some conditions, including financial commitments, bank and corporate guarantees, and approval from ICC for the sub-licensing deal. It is seeking a refund of ₹69 crore it has already paid Star on the grounds that the latter failed to secure necessary approvals from ICC, thus renouncing the contract. Over the past few months, Star has sent several letters to Zee alleging a breach of contract due to non-payment of dues. The first instalment was supposed to be $203.56 million. Previous Next

After three decades of covering over 10.77 Points of Interest (POI), MapmyIndia secured a contract with Hyundai and Kia Motors’s OEM business in January 2024 to provide map and connected services for the next five years. The subscription is free for three years for SMEs and startups using the ONDC platform. In response to this move and to undercut MapmyIndia’s revenue stream, Google Maps reduced its pricing for developers by 70%. It is offering a 90% discount to developers who collaborate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) Among many applications, developers embed maps into their mobile or website apps, use them for routing in logistics or delivery apps, and geocoding, which means converting addresses into geographic coordinates and vice versa. - Telecom dept to allocate service, transactional calls to 160 numbering series | Salestors.com
< Back Telecom dept to allocate service, transactional calls to 160 numbering series 29 May 2024 All state and central government companies will use phone numbers beginning with 1600. All financial entities failing under RBI, SEBI, PFRDA, and IRDAI will use the 1601 series. The Telecom department announced on Tuesday its plans to roll out 10-digit numbers beginning with 1600 for service and 1400 series for marketing calls, as per Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation (TCCCPR) 2018. The phone numbers will use the 1600ABCXXX format, where AB denotes the telecom circle, like 11 for NCR and 22 for Mumbai, C indicates the telecom operator, and XXX will display numbers between 000 and 999. TRAI recently recommended that mobile phone makers enable the display of the caller’s name for both personal and commercial calls. This distinction will ensure callers know a genuine caller, like a financial institution, from a fraudster using a personal SIM card acting like a bank representative. Some telecom operators have started using the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), a blockchain-based solution to target fraud calls and text messages. The Telecom Service Provider will properly verify before allocating these numbers to a company. Previous Next

- Agni Prime Missile fired from a rail-based mobile launcher | Salestors.com
< Back Agni Prime Missile fired from a rail-based mobile launcher 25 Sept 2025 The missile features a range of up to 2,000 km, advanced communication systems, and independent launch capability. India successfully test-fired the Agni Prime Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile on Wednesday from a train. This puts India among the select group of nations, including Russia, China, and the US, that own such advanced mobile, canisterized missile launchers. The missile can be launched from anywhere on the rail network, offering a short reaction time despite reduced visibility and cross-country mobility. It is a two-stage, solid propellant missile – the sixth in the Agni series. It was being transported via truck and launched via canister until now. It also has nuclear capabilities. Keeping missiles on fixed launchers makes them more vulnerable to strikes. Moving launchers gives them the added advantage. In the 1950s, the US began studying the feasibility of a rail-based launch mode for its Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) but abandoned it in 1961. In the 1980s, the US planned to deploy Peacekeeper ICBMs on railway mobile launchers. Check out my new book, THE BLACK FLAMES , on Amazon Kindle. A gripping, high-stakes novel. Previous Next
- China’s Single’s Day shopping festival losing its appeal | Salestors.com
< Back China’s Single’s Day shopping festival losing its appeal 12 Nov 2024 Alibaba started the popular shopping event on November 11th, 2009. Chinese annual shopping event called Single’s Day or Double 11 was started by the c-commerce giant Alibaba and adopted by other websites like Pinduoduo and JD.com. It began as a one-day event but soon became a festival, as Chinese shopping platforms began the promotions weeks ahead to lure in shoppers. The pandemic, coupled with China’s sluggish domestic economy, a real estate crisis, and deflationary pressures, discouraged consumers from spending lavishly like before. This slowing trend pushed the e-commerce portals to offer promotions to markets abroad with global free shipping, thus helping local merchants to sell worldwide. Customers believe discounts aren’t as significant, and prices are inflated before merchants offer discounts. Moreover, the government’s latest financial stimuli have failed to boost consumer confidence. The gross merchandising volume sales across major e-commerce portals grew by only 2% compared with double-digited growth pre-pandemic, Syntun, the data provider, reported. Previous Next
