• Movies no longer getting OTT deals until the theatrical release | Salestors.com

< Back Movies no longer getting OTT deals until the theatrical release 6 May 2024 Some high-profile movies lost their OTT deals after box office failures. From the early to mid-2000s, TV platforms like Sony, Star, Viacom18, and Zee engaged in a bidding war to secure a movie’s streaming rights, sometimes before it went into production. OTT followed the same practice. Online streaming platforms offered a price based on the box office figures of the lead actor’s last movie. Since projections are not working now, OTT platforms are striking staggered deals in parts. They pay a percentage before theatrical release, and the contracts offer them the option to terminate the agreement in case of commercial failure. OTT platforms still buy big titles at a negotiated price but refrain from absorbing duds in their catalogue. They also decline deals on the grounds that films do not meet their standards. Until 2022, movies were released online within four weeks of theatrical launch, which was increased to eight weeks from August 1st, 2022. Previous Next

< Back Tata Motors splits commercial and passenger vehicle businesses 5 Mar 2024 Its passenger vehicle business includes UK-based luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). • Musk’s X sues Indian govt for unlawful content regulation | Salestors.com

< Back Musk’s X sues Indian govt for unlawful content regulation 21 Mar 2025 The microblogging site moved the Karnataka High Court, alleging arbitrary censorship by the central and state governments. X accused the government of controlling online content without judicial oversight. The lawsuit raises concerns over the central government’s interpretation of Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000. X maintains these notifications ignore the procedural safeguards set by the Supreme Court under Section 69A, which allows the Central government to order the blocking of content if deemed necessary for sovereignty, security, public order, or to prevent incitement. It argues that Section 79(3)(b) simply allows the government to hold the service providers and social media apps liable to remove unlawful content promptly. Reports suggest the government orders under Section 79(3)(b) were notifications about illegal content, not direct blocking orders. X also opposes the government’s centralised ‘Sahyog’ platform for issuing such notices, calling it a ‘censorship portal’. In 2022, X sued the government over blocking orders under Section 69A, claiming that the orders violated the right to free speech. Never miss another post from SalestorrsNews150. • India to fund Maldives’ largest water and sanitation project in 28 islands | Salestors.com

< Back India to fund Maldives’ largest water and sanitation project in 28 islands 13 Aug 2024 The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar inaugurated the water and sanitation project worth ₹923 crore and introduced UPI there. S Jaishankar signed many Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and virtually inaugurated six High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in the areas of mental health, speech therapy, special education, and street lighting. The MoUs focused on capacity building for 1,000 more civil servants in India and launching the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the Maldives. With Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Foreign Minister Fathulla Jameel, S Jaishankar inaugurated the water project in 28 islands backed by India’s Line of Credit. India’s relations with Maldives strained after the Muizzu government came in September 2023, which was inclined towards strengthening their relations with China over India. Derogatory remarks against Narendra Modi, pushing withdrawal of Indian military personnel from Maldives, and a social media war impacted the relations further. In the July 2024 budget, India reduced the grants to Maldives to ₹400 crore, which is ₹200 crore less than announced in February. Previous Next

  • Indian govt may allow commercial usage of airport land | Salestors.com

< Back Indian govt may allow commercial usage of airport land 11 Mar 2025 It is considering amending the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Act, 1994, to permit non-aviation linked businesses on the airport land. If the Indian government goes through with the amendment to the AAI Act, it will allow private operators to establish commercial hubs on the airport land and offer non-aviation linked services. This could include shopping hubs, centres for corporate events and conferences and offices around airports. The Civil Aviation Ministry is conducting inter-ministerial discussions, which could lead to a bill being introduced in the Parliament. This entire effort is part of the broader plan to privatise 11 airports in tier II cities, including Amritsar, Bhubaneshwar, Varanasi, and Raipur, by the end of FY2026. The amendment will maintain restrictions on polluting activities, while unlocking a prime land parcel for commercial projects from the private sector. Chapter 3, Section 12 of the AAI Act,1994, allows commercial activities at airports limited to hotels, restaurants, and warehouses; other real estate development is not allowed. The government will keep land usage provisions flexible. Never miss another post from SalestorrsNews150. Follow Salestorrs on WhatsApp , LinkedIn , Facebook , X , and Instagram . Previous Next

  • Govt mandates full disclosure on all packaged items in retail | Salestors.com

< Back Govt mandates full disclosure on all packaged items in retail 16 Jul 2024 Irrespective of the quantity, every packaged item in the retail market must carry complete product details, like ingredients, price, place of origin, and key dates. According to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, packaged products of more than 25 kg sold in the retail market are exempt from including relevant details on the labels. This is because of the common understanding that commodities above 25 kg were not meant for retail use. The government plans to amend these rules to mandate this disclosure for all commodities, irrespective of size and weight. Mandatory details will include the commodity's common or generic name, maximum retail price, unit sale price, month and year of production, best before or use by date, net quantity, name and address of the manufacturer, importer, packer, and country of origin. With this move, the government aims to standardise the rules and regulations surrounding packaged items and establish consistency and remove bias across brands and their products. However, the new rules will not apply to packaged goods meant for industrial or institutional customers. Previous Next
