- Satcom an expensive alternative to broadband, fibre cable | Salestors.com
< Back Satcom an expensive alternative to broadband, fibre cable 9 May 2024 Bharti Airtel-backed OneWeb partnered with ISRO to launch 36 satellites into Earth’s orbit. Reliance Jio bought a majority stake in Skytran and SES for equipment. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are engaged in a war to introduce Satellite Communication (Satcom) in India. Airtel invested USD3.3 billion in OneWeb that tied up with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to launch 36 more satellites into the Earth’s lower orbit, bringing the total to 618. Reliance Jio acquired a majority stake in US-based Skytran in 2020 and bought Luxembourg-based SES in 2023 for USD 100 million for equipment and gateway. A Satcom 1 GB plan can cost the user ₹5,000 and the equipment ₹60,000. Hence, only big businesses may initially invest in this tech. Satcom is expected to offer good connectivity to remote areas, especially where fibre cable cannot reach. However, its signals travel large distances, thus taking time to reach the user and causing delays in live communication. Also, bad weather or dense green coverage can cause problems in transmission and communication. Previous Next
- Rolling Stone, Variety owner sues Google over AI summaries | Salestors.com
< Back Rolling Stone, Variety owner sues Google over AI summaries 16 Sept 2025 This is the first time Google is being sued over AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of its search results. Penske Media, the owner of Rolling Stone, Variety, and Billboard, sued Google in the Washington, D.C., Federal Court. It claims that Google use its journalistic content without consent, thus reducing traffic to its websites. It alleges that around 20% of Google search results linked to Penske websites show AI overviews, and its revenue has fallen by over a third from 2024-end. Penske pointed out that Google includes publishers’ websites in search results only if it can use their content in AI summaries. It could impose such terms due to its search dominance. Without this, Google would end up paying the publishers for the right to republish their work or use it to train their AI systems. Penske attracts 120 million online visitors per month. Several news organisations have also argued that Google’s AI Overviews pull traffic away from their sites, thus hogging their ad and subscription revenue.
- Adani to divert funds from stake sale towards infrastructure | Salestors.com
< Back Adani to divert funds from stake sale towards infrastructure 8 Jan 2025 Adani Enterprises had proposed a FMCG business demerger in August 2024, which was withdrawn in October. On December 30th, Adani Enterprises announced its decision to sell the entire 43.94% stake in Adani Wilmar Limited. It sold 31.06% to Singapore-based Wilmar International and plans to sell the remaining ~13% in the open stock market for a total of $2 billion. Adani’s exit from Adani Wilmar, its FMCG business, was long expected. Adani Wilmar makes cooking oil, wheat flour, and other edibles under the ‘Fortune’ brand. The edible oil share declined steadily due to rising import costs and weak demand, but Adani retained market leadership at 20%. The edible oil segment contributes 80% to Adani Wilmar's revenue share but offers lower profitability, with a margin of just 0.33% in FY2024. This is the biggest deal after Adani was indicted in the US on bribery charges in November. The matter pushed the conglomerate to focus on reducing the debt of ₹2.4 lakh crore in FY2024 from its listed companies. Previous Next

- Govt disconnects 70 lakh mobile numbers linked to cybercrime | Salestors.com
< Back Govt disconnects 70 lakh mobile numbers linked to cybercrime 1 Dec 2023 The Financial Services Secretary, Vivek Joshi, recently commented that around ₹900 crore of defrauded money has been saved, benefitting 3.5 lakh victims. On Tuesday, the Department of Financial Services met with several banks and startups like Paytm and Razorpay to gauge their preparedness to battle financial and banking frauds. 70 lakh mobile connections linked to cybercrime reported through digital intelligence platforms have been disconnected. Over 70% of banking transfer frauds were related to KYC requirements. Fraudsters impersonate bank officials to gather victims’ personal information, coerce them to share OTPs, engage in identity thefts, and conduct smishing by stealing customer data once they click on a link received via SMS. In October, the Bank of Baroda suspended 60 employees, including 11 Assistant General Managers, area managers, and zonal heads, after investigating the bank’s KYC fraud. It came to light after RBI asked the bank to stop new customer onboarding due to registration irregularities in its digital app, BOB World. This year, till September, Bengaluru alone reported 12,615 cybercrime cases worth ₹470.05 crore. Previous Next
- US Federal Trade Commission sues Meta for buying out competition | Salestors.com
< Back US Federal Trade Commission sues Meta for buying out competition 15 Apr 2025 The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed an antitrust suit against Meta for buying Instagram and WhatsApp to avoid competition. The antitrust trial against Meta started on April 14th. The US FTC alleges that Meta unlawfully monopolised the social media market. FTC produced an email from Mark Zuckerberg dating back to 2012 confirming his intentions to buy Instagram to “neutralize a competitor” and his concerns about Facebook Camera lagging behind Instagram. Zuckerberg admitted to the genuineness of these emails but clarified that they were being portrayed out of context. Meta alleges it still competes with YouTube, TikTok, SnapChat, and Apple’s iMessage. FTC argued that users don’t have other meaningful alternatives to Meta. If the FTC wins, Meta could be forced to sell Instagram and WhatsApp. Experts estimate Instagram, Meta’s major ad revenue generator, could produce $37 billion in ad revenue in 2025. This case was filed during President Trump’s first term. Meta donated $1 million to his inauguration this year and is trying to persuade Trump to settle the lawsuit. - EU’s Sustainable Products Regulation to hurt Indian exports | Salestors.com
< Back EU’s Sustainable Products Regulation to hurt Indian exports 24 Jun 2024 Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) mandates stringent sustainability checks for imported products. This is bound to impact Indian exports to Europe significantly. The European Union recently passed a new regulation, the ESPR, to monitor the sustainability of imported products. It also mandates a Digital Product Passport for easier traceability of items. It will come into effect in January 2026 and begin monitoring items like textiles, mattresses, furniture, iron and steel, tyres, paints, detergents, and lubricants. By 2030, it will cover all EU imports. Global research group Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) believes this initiative will hurt exports from various countries. These countries will have to change their production processes to meet the ESPR sustainability criteria, which can lead to higher production and compliance costs, thus reducing the pricing advantage Indian exporters enjoy. To be compliant, Indian firms must ascertain their products' environmental impact throughout their life cycle, ensure ESPR adoption in their processes, set up compliance policies and measures, and provide the necessary sustainability data for Digital product Passports.
Previous Next

High volume of registrations from students who craved more after watching their free YouTube sessions. This formula got PhysicsWallah levitating above the others. The humble physics tutor, who commenced classes in 2020, reported a revenue of ₹ 24 crores in FY 2021 that jumped to ₹800 crores in FY 2023. They focus on quality content for low prices. Their significant amount of YouTube content hooked the students at the bottom of the academic pyramid. Usually, they get up to 50,000 students per batch, and last year alone, they taught 1.65 million students.
