Brent Crude Oil dropped by 6.5% this week to $68.34, the lowest since December 2021. OPEC+, the alliance between oil producing nations from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), led by Saudi Arabia, will produce more oil between April 2025 and September 2026. It had reduced production from November 2023. Along with this, the US tariffs levied on Canada, China, and Mexico, and allegedly, Kazakhstan’s ongoing overproduction, caused the crude oil prices to decline. Crude inventories grew by 3.6 million barrels to 433.8 million last week. The US also ended oil producer Chevron’s license to operate in Venezuela and export oil. This decision may reduce the supply by 200,000 barrels per day. Also, the US tariffs may cause a correction of around ₹3,000 per tonne in Indian steel prices. AirFiber will allow it to complete 150,000 connections daily from the 15,000 connections optical fibre currently achieves. Jio 5G adds one cell to its network every 10 seconds and is present in 96% of the census towns in India. The new carriers, founded in 2024, received an NOC from the Civil Aviation Ministry and await an Air Operator Certificate from the DGCA. Shankh Air is expected to start flying in mid-2025 from Noida’s Jewar Airport, and connect major metros with tier 2 cities like Varanasi, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur. It will begin with two leased aircraft and expand to five within the first year. It may start flying internationally by 2027. Air Kerela plans to become India’s first ultra-low-cost carrier, connecting tier 2 and 3 cities in Kerela with metros. It may begin domestic operations later this year and start flying internationally in 2026, beginning with Gulf routes. India has 12 operational airlines, including five mainline and seven regional carriers. IndiGo and Air India serve over 90% of Indian passengers. The Navi Mumbai airport is set to begin operating 12 hours a day in December. It will initially handle 12 flights per hour, increasing to 30 per hour within three months. The airport sprawls over 1,160 hectares and has been developed for ₹19,647 crore. It has been built in five phases, the first of which can handle 20 million passengers annually along with 5 lakh tons of cargo. Once operational, the facility will feature two parallel runways and four terminals, with an annual capacity of 90 million passengers and 3.25 million tons of cargo. The airport is a joint venture between the Adani Group, which holds a 74% stake, and the Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra. To date, Mumbai has been among the world's most populated cities served by a single airport with just one runway. < Back Govt asked Amazon, Flipkart to setup ONDC storefronts on their portals 29 Apr 2024 Establishing its storefront on eCommerce portals’ home pages will help Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) expand operations and efficiency. ONDC, launched in January 2023 to counter eCommerce’s dominance, is the brainchild of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Commerce Ministry. It allows small players easy access to an open sellers’ network without paying a significant commission or signing up on eCommerce portals. It is now discussing phased participation with Amazon and Flipkart to launch its storefront on their home pages. Amazon confirmed integrating its logistics network and Smart Commerce services in February 2023. This will give Amazon’s users access to the product offerings from ONDC’s over 105,000 non-mobility sellers. Flipkart’s logistics arm Ekart and Snapdeal integrated with ONDC in December 2023. ONDC is also in talks with the National Restaurants Association of India, representing over 500,000 restaurants, for last-mile delivery, order tracking, and network listing. The order dated May 7th issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India mandates all advertisers and ad agencies to fill out a self-declaration form for all ads to be published, aired, or issued via print or digital media effective June 18th. The self declaration form ensures the ad does not convey any misleading claims, and complies with regulatory guidelines like the Norms of Journalistic Conduct of Press Council of India, and Rule 7 of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994. This move aims to ensure responsible advertising practices, consumer protection and transparency. The form will be available on the Press Council of India’s portal for print and digital ads and on the Broadcast Seva Portal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for television and radio ads. Rafale is priced at $110-120 million, while the F35s cost between $80-115 million depending upon the model F35A, B, or C. Rafale offers agility, flexibility, and a strong payload and performs exceedingly well in close-combat scenarios. Among the most advanced and costliest globally, F35s offer unmatched stealth, sensor and long-range capabilities and advanced radar and electronic warfare systems. < Back RBI grants Zoho, Decentro, and Juspay the Payment Aggregator license 8 Feb 2024 In January, Zomato, Tata Pay, and Stripe received the Payment Aggregator (PA) license. Amidst the hue and cry surrounding Paytm Payments Bank getting barred, RBI granted PA licenses to startups like Zoho, Decentro, and Juspay. Zoho is an Enterprise Software-as-a-Service startup and the only such company to secure the permit. Decentro offers banking solutions via APIs and integration services to neo-banks, fintechs, and marketplaces. Juspay offers UPI, card, and wallet-based transactions. Other fintech startups like PhonePe, Pine Labs, Infibeam, Easebuzz, and Enkash received in-principle approvals from the central bank. This means they get 18 months to comply with all regulatory conditions to obtain the final PA license. Cashfree and Razorpay received their much-awaited licenses in December 2023. After having its application returned last year, PayU reapplied again, and its application is under process. Cred is also awaiting the nod. PA license allows companies to become payment services providers to merchants of online and eCommerce businesses and accept various payment instruments from customers. Previous Next
