- Reliance eyeing Walt Disney India operations for OTT and TV business | Salestors.com
< Back Reliance eyeing Walt Disney India operations for OTT and TV business 7 Nov 2023 Disney has been looking for partners for some time, and Adani, Kalanithi Maran, and Sony Pictures have shown interest. Since July, Disney India has been looking to sell or partner up for its digital and TV business. And Reliance happens to be a contender. This deal could boost Viacom18-Star’s market share to 35% in OTT and 40% in TV, leaving behind Sony-Zee’s 15% OTT market share. It may end up with a top line of around ₹25,000 crores and 115 channels and two streaming platforms (JioCinema and Disney+Hotstar). Previously, Viacom18 had won the rights to IPL 2023-27, and BCCI India matches that were once Disney+Hotstar property. Adding to its woes, Disney’s deal with HBO for megahits like Game of Thrones and Succession ended, causing a 16% decline in its subscriber base. However, Disney’s decision to sell is primarily based on the US$ 44.5 billion debt faced by its US operations and falling global stock. CEO Bob Iger plans to cut costs up to US$ 5.5 billion.
Previous Next
- Govt to set up 25,000 Graphics Processing Units clusters worth ₹10k crores | Salestors.com
< Back Govt to set up 25,000 Graphics Processing Units clusters worth ₹10k crores Ishita Nigam 4 Oct 2023 The move will assist AI-driven startups who need GPUs to process multiple computations simultaneously. To assist AI-driven Indian startups, the government plans to set up 25,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPU) cluster costing between ₹8,000-10,000 crores. GPUs help in complex computations for AI processing and are hard to find and expensive for these startups. The move will help these companies scale operations and secure better funding. Several AI-driven startups often petitioned the government to increase compute capacity, which refers to the software and hardware available to support AI workloads and applications. The new cluster will manifest as a Public-Private Partnership and the capacity offered to startups as a service. The proposal for the 25,000 GPU cluster will be finalised by year end. Global supercomputers run on 30,000 GPUs, while India’s supercomputer, Airawat, installed in the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Pune, has 640 GPUs. The latest partnership between American giant Nvidia, Reliance Jio, and Tata Sons is expected to boost compute capacity in India. Previous Next

- Twitter CEO Dorsey launches messaging app Bitchat | Salestors.com
< Back Twitter CEO Dorsey launches messaging app Bitchat 10 Jul 2025 It is a decentralised, peer-to-peer communication app that operates exclusively on Bluetooth mesh networks, without the need for the internet. Twitter Founder Jack Dorsey’s latest product, Bitchat, is in the beta testing phase currently, with a live version available on TestFlight. The app does not need central servers, mobile numbers, email IDs or personal account creation to function. It facilitates encrypted messaging between nearby devices that form local Bluetooth clusters when users move around physically. These clusters direct the flow of messages between devices, enabling communication with users beyond a specific physical range, without relying on Wi-Fi or cellular service. ‘Bridge’ devices can connect overlapping clusters and expand the Bluetooth mesh over larger distances. Messages are relayed across devices, thus crossing a normal Bluetooth range. Messages are stored on devices and are deleted by default, without being sent to a central server, thus ensuring privacy. Users can create password-protected group chats, called Rooms, named using hashtags. Dorsey plans to add WiFi Direct for faster messaging in a future update. - Govt may break four-tiered GST slab into two by Diwali | Salestors.com
< Back Govt may break four-tiered GST slab into two by Diwali 21 Aug 2025 The 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% rate system would be replaced by 5% and 18% rates. The GST Council will meet in September to finalise the launch of new rates. Besides making certain items cheaper, it will correct the inverted duty structure, which means the GST paid on raw materials and services is higher than the one on the final product. For instance, yarn is taxed at 5% and finished garments carry a 5% GST rate, which requires the manufacturer to pay more tax on raw materials than on sales of finished products. The new regime will reduce the refund delays and facilitate manufacturing. It will simplify product categorisation, facilitate pre-filled returns and quicker registration for MSMEs. Products with 5% GST Personal care items, like toothpaste, soaps, and hair oil. Food and groceries Electronics Apparel and footwear Health Education Transport and Energy products, such as public transport vehicles, solar water heaters, and agricultural machinery. Speaking at a CII event, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch mentioned that Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund will soon introduce ₹250 mutual funds in India. - After record profits, airlines facing downwind due to rising costs | Salestors.com
< Back After record profits, airlines facing downwind due to rising costs 13 Nov 2023 Rising fuel costs, forex volatility, and stagnant demand are pulling the airlines back to the red compared to last year. IndiGo had posted record profit figures of ₹2,300 crore in the second half of FY2023. Last year, several Indian carriers were enjoying the momentum carried forward from the second half of FY2023. IndiGo moved from a loss of ₹2,600 crore to a record profit of ₹2,300 crore in the second half of FY2023. In the first quarter of FY 2024, IndiGo moved past last year’s figures to post ₹3,000 crore profit. It cited better external factors and initiatives for operational improvements as key reasons. However, Indian carriers are now facing a downwind due to skyrocketing fuel costs, lower yields, still demand, and forex volatility. In the second quarter of the current financial year, IndiGo posted a profit of ₹188 crore compared to the ₹3,000 crore profit in Q1. Besides, other factors contributing to the airline woes are charges like the aircraft landing fee, parking fee, and Airport Development Fee (ADF) per passenger, which have soared very high in metro cities.
