Amazon announced on Thursday the launch of its Multi Channel Fulfillment, allowing non-partner small businesses and D2C brands to use its logistics and supply chain services. This will enable these non-partner sellers to use Amazon’s warehouses and storage facilities for storing, picking, packing, and shipping their products through multiple sales channels, including their own website. Amazon recently signed an MoU with India Post to facilitate cross-border logistics so its sellers in India can smoothly send their products abroad. It is also partnering with Indian Railways’ Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India to offer seamless domestic logistics solutions to its sellers in the country. The eCommerce giant pledged to log $8 billion of exports from India in 2023. On the tech front, Amazon will soon roll out a generative AI tool and virtual assistant, Amazon Sahai, to help sellers on its platform clarify queries, list products, and analyse trends. In FY2024, imports from China rose by 3.24% to $101.7 billion, and exports increased by 8.7% to $16.67 billion. The latest report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) shows that India’s trade with China has increased while its trade with the US has decreased. India relies heavily on China for telecom, advanced technology, and pharmaceutical imports. India imported 44% of the smartphone and telecom parts worth $4.2 billion, 77% of laptop and PC parts worth $3.8 billion, and 75% of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles from China last financial year. To reduce this dependency, India has taken steps like production-linked incentive schemes, quality control orders, and anti-dumping duties. India's second-largest trade partner is Russia. Last year, our imports from Russia spiked by 952% to $61.44 billion, and exports increased by 78.3% to $4.26 billion. Launched in September, JSW MG’s Windsor runs at an ex-showroom price of ₹9.9 lakh without the battery. It outsold its competitors in October 2024 with 3,116 unit sales compared with Tata Nexon at 1,593 units and Tata Curvv at 1,542 units. What’s driving this trend for JSW MG is their newly launched Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, which allows customers to buy the vehicle, lease the battery, and pay only for the kilometres driven. Consumers can swap the rented battery at a network provider for an average rent of ₹3.5/km, a maintenance cost of ₹0.5/km, and a charging price of ₹1/km, where charging is offered free for the first year. Ultimately, a Windsor SUV costs ₹4.75/km without GST to the consumers. The other Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars cost ₹8-9/km. Nashik-based Right Tight Fasteners (RTF) will acquire Aurangabad-based BG Fastening and Engineering, Fontana Gruppo’s existing operations in India. Then, Fontana Gruppo will invest ₹1,000 crore to buy 60% stake in RTF. RTF is India’s second largest automotive fastener maker. It operates four facilities in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu and supplies parts like nuts, bolts, and screws to M&M, Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Royal Enfield, Ola Electric, and Bajaj Auto. RTF’s leadership will spearhead the new entity, which will become one of the largest fastener makers in India. In February, the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm, acquired a 70% stake for $400 million in the entity combined after the merger of Roop Automotives and Highway Industries. In 2024, Bain Capital invested in RSB Transmissions. In 2023, Microsoft invested $10 billion, bringing the total to $13 billion. These investments allowed Microsoft to integrate OpenAI’s products with its own. Microsoft may garner 75% of OpenAI's profits as a return on investment along with a 49% stake in the company. In 2023, CMA ordered an investigation to check if the alliance gave either of the firms a stronger hold and influence over the other. After 14 months of scrutiny, the competition authority approved the association. Microsoft faced antitrust issues in the UK and the US after its initial investment in 2019 and the boardroom battle of 2023 that led to the ousting and reinstatement of Sam Altman. India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the Air India AI 171 plane crash investigation. The leading and global assisting teams will follow the international protocols of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) sent an investigation team. Led by British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, they will work under the ‘expert status’ following the death of 53 British nationals in the crash. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the lone survivor, is a British citizen of Indian origin. The US is sending the National Transportation Safety Board officials to assist with the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) team will offer technical support and review safety data. Boeing and GE Aerospace engineers will analyse the crash wreckage and engine performance. The crash site temperature reached nearly 1,000 degrees, making the rescue attempts difficult. Tata Group has offered the victims' families an ₹1 crore ex-gratia payment. Reliance Jio bought a majority stake in Skytran and SES for equipment. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are engaged in a war to introduce Satellite Communication (Satcom) in India. Airtel invested USD3.3 billion in OneWeb that tied up with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to launch 36 more satellites into the Earth’s lower orbit, bringing the total to 618. Reliance Jio acquired a majority stake in US-based Skytran in 2020 and bought Luxembourg-based SES in 2023 for USD 100 million for equipment and gateway. A Satcom 1 GB plan can cost the user ₹5,000 and the equipment ₹60,000. Hence, only big businesses may initially invest in this tech. Satcom is expected to offer good connectivity to remote areas, especially where fibre cable cannot reach. However, its signals travel large distances, thus taking time to reach the user and causing delays in live communication. < Back Tata Capital and Tata Motors Finance set to merge within a year 7 Jun 2024 The Board of Tata Motors Limited (TML), Tata Capital Limited (TCL), and Tata Motors Finance Limited (TMFL) approved the merger. However, they still need the nod from SEBI, RBI, NCLT, and the shareholders and creditors of TMFL and TCL. The Board approved the merger of TCL and TMFL under the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) arrangement scheme, which allows a company to restructure its business, assets, and liabilities. The process will take 9-12 months to complete. TCL is among India’s biggest Non-Banking Financial Corporations (NBFCs), while TMFL offers financial services to dealers and vendors of new and old private vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs). The merger will help TCL establish itself in the CV and PV segment, offer growth opportunities to its employees, and improve products for customers. Tata Motors will be able to focus on its core business and emerging technologies. In FY2024, TCL reported a profit after tax of ₹3,150 crore, while TMFL recorded ₹52 crore. As per the merger, TCL will issue equity shares to TMFL. Tata Motors will secure 4.7% in the merged entity. In March, Tata Motors split its CV and PV businesses. Previous Next

< Back Noida Int’l Airport to begin flight testing from Nov 30 17 Nov 2024 The airport in Jewar postponed aircraft landing tests to November 30th. Touted Asia’s largest airport, Noida International Airport in Jewar, will begin testing aircraft landing from November 30th. The trials initially scheduled for November 15th were delayed as the airport did not get permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). As part of the testing, three flights each of IndiGo and Akasa Air will land at the airport daily. After completing the testing phase, DGCA will issue the aerodrome license, thus preparing the airport for commercial operations. The official opening for commercial operations is set for April 25th, 2025. Flight bookings will begin in January 2025, three months before the inaugural flight. The authorities have partnered with Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa and the first flights will depart for Dubai and Singapore. Developed by Yamuna International Airport, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, Switzerland, this airport has six runways, twice as many as Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.
