Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure reduced their debt and gained ₹17,600 crore from investors to become debt-free. Authum Infrastructure became Reliance Infrastructure’s largest public shareholder with a 10.89% stake. Reliance NU Energies secured 350 MW of solar capacity. Reliance NU Suntech signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to establish Asia’s biggest integrated Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for ₹10,000 crore in partnership with the Solar Energy Corporation of India. Reliance Power tied up with the Bhutan Government’s investment arm, Druk Holding, to develop a 750 MW hydroelectric and a 500 MW solar project. A subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Defence, has entered a strategic partnership with Rheinmetall, the German ammunition manufacturer, to supply propellants and explosives. Reliance Infrastructure is developing 1,000 acres of Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC) in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India’s biggest private-sector greenfield defence manufacturing hub. < Back Delhi High Court dismisses Celebi’s appeal 7 Jul 2025 The Turkish airport ground handling agency had challenged the revocation of its security license. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) had revoked Celebi’s license on May 15th, citing a threat to civil aviation security. Celebi staff had access to sensitive areas at the airport, like the tarmac and cargo zones. The Delhi High Court dismissed Celebi’s appeal against its license revocation. It argued that the government did not follow due process and grant it a hearing before cancelling its license. The High Court found no procedural impropriety in the government’s decision. Justice Sachin Datta pointed out that judicial principles give primacy to national security considerations when weighed against the principle of due process. Celebi manages ground and cargo operations for nine major airports in India, including 70% of Mumbai airport operations. It was responsible for passenger, flight, and cargo handling, postal services, and bridges and warehouse management. It had been operating in India for 15 years and employed over 10,000 people. < Back Point of Sale service provider Worldline to offer payment services in India Ishita Nigam 27 Sept 2023 The approximately $8 billion company has been tying up with Indian banks for decades but has started acquiring its own merchants to offer payment services in India. French service provider Worldline has partnered with banks in India for more than two decades to install Android Point of Sale (PoS) devices in over 500,000 merchant outlets. But now it plans to join the bandwagon of payment services in the country. Worldline has started partnering directly with merchants like grocery stores, chemists, restaurants, and other retailers to offer online payment services. It plans to begin offering offline payments, which may need a fresh license as per RBI guidelines. It is also contemplating becoming a third party payment app on UPI interface. Worldline received an in-principle approval from RBI in December 2022 to become a payment aggregator. It partnered with Indian retail technology provider SignCatch in April 2023 to enroll 100,000 MSMEs within three months of launch. It will compete with players like Paytm, PhonePe, and Pine Labs. Worldline will serve the Indian market craving more omnichannel payment solutions. Previous Next

< Back India to manage Iran’s Chabahar Port for 10 years 13 May 2024 This port is India’s direct link to Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Eurasia. Chabahar will connect to the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which links India, Iran, and Russia. In a critical geopolitical move, India and Iran signed an agreement to manage Chabahar Port for ten years. The discussions were triggered last August during the BRICS Summit. This is the first time India will manage an overseas port. This port will link India and Russia via Iran, allowing India to bypass Pakistan and directly access Afghanistan and Central Asia. The new agreement will replace the original contract and automatically extend after ten years. The original contract covered only the operations at Chabahar’s Shahid Beheshti terminal and renews every year. It was developed under a tripartite agreement signed between India, Iran, and Afghanistan in May 2016. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan wanted to use Chabahar to access the Indian Ocean Region. Pakistan also tried to convince Central Asian states to use Karachi Port to access the Indian Market, but India indicated that Chabahar would be a better option. Previous Next

On May 29th, Elon Musk announced the end of his term as a Special Government Employee, who can serve the government up to 130 days. He criticised the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This bill extends provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that reduce the corporate and individual tax rates and deduct $1 trillion from programs like Medicaid and SNAP Food Assistance. It was passed by the House and awaits Senate approval now. The US Court of International Trade declared the 10% baseline tariffs issued on April 2 unlawful. Trump is the first President to use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to justify his tariffs. The panel noted that Trump did not have the authority to use IEEPA to impose tariffs, and it violates constitutional limits on presidential power. Reliance Jio partnered with IIT Bombay in 2014 and plans to launch Bharat GPT, a Large Language Model (LLM) tailored for the Indian market. Reliance aims to integrate the AI model horizontally across its other services in media, communication, commerce, and devices. The company has also been working on its own television operating system for a while and aims to launch it soon. In September, It partnered with American tech corp NVIDIA to develop LLMs and generative AI apps in India. Reliance aims to offer AI-based apps and services for its Jio customers and energy-efficient AI infrastructure for scientists and startups across India for research. Just two weeks earlier, CoRover.ai announced a partnership with Google Cloud to launch BharatGPT, a generative AI-powered chatbot for the Indian market. Driven by increasing sales of Pro models, Apple recorded approximately $2 billion in sales in the quarter ending March 2024. It had recorded roughly $6 billion in sales in FY2023. Globally, Apple recorded $90.75 billion in revenue in the quarter ending March 2024, compared to $94.8 billion in the same period in FY2023. Its iPhone sales dropped by 8% annually, mainly due to a decline in sales in the Greater China region, which includes Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, as well as tough competition from Huawei. However, Apple set a half-yearly revenue record in India and more emerging markets like Latin America, the Phillippines, Turkey, the Middle East, and Indonesia. One of the main factors contributing to its revenue growth in India is operational expansion and local manufacturing. As India's fourth most popular food, 20% of pizzas are sold below ₹300, 35% between ₹100-200, and 17% under ₹100. The Indian pizza market was valued at USD 5.3 billion in 2024 and is growing at a CAGR of 9.24% compared to the global average of 6.8%, an IMARC report mentioned. Market leader in India, Jubilant Foodworks (Domino’s), recently reported double-digit revenue growth for two consecutive quarters, and may have hit the ceiling. As of December 2024, Domino's operates 2,170 stores across India, compared to Devyani International’s (Pizza Hut) 644, ET reported. 73% of Domino’s sales come from online deliveries. Joining the race are Ovenstory, La Pinoz, and Papa John’s, which is up to 15% more expensive globally, but may introduce pizzas for less than ₹150 in India. L’Air Greenland a effectue le 28 novembre le premier vol direct entre Copenhague et Nuuk, a bord d’un Airbus A330neo. L’aéroport d’Ilulissat améliorera l’accès à son magnifique fjord de glace et à la région de Disko Bay. L’aéroport de Qaqortoq améliorera l’accès au sud du Groenland est disposera d’un système de tour numérique pour permettre le contrôler du trafic aérien à l’aide de solutions numérique avancées. L’achèvement des deux aéroports est prevu pour 2026. À Nuuk, la piste a été allongée de 1 500 mètres à 2 200 mètres pour accueillir des avions plus grands, comme l'Airbus A330neo opéré par Air Greenland. < Back Airtel partners with Perplexity AI for Indian users 22 Jul 2025 It will offer a Perplexity Pro subscription worth ₹17,000 for free for all Airtel customers of mobile, home broadband, or DTH subscriptions. Bharti Airtel has partnered with Perplexity AI, an Nvidia-backed AI search engine that utilises a self-learning AI tool. The telecom giant will offer a free 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro to over 360 million users. Users will be able to access Perplexity Pro via the Airtel Thanks app. This is Perplexity’s first partnership in India. Its free version provides search functions, while the Pro version offers more daily searches per user, access to GPT 4.1 and Claude, and allows users to select specific models, image generations, deep research, file uploads, and analysis. The Pro version also offers Perplexity Labs. With the deal, Perplexity scaled up on the downloads list on Apple’s App Store, above its competitors, including ChatGPT. < Back Rapido's Ownly to charge 8-15% commission from restaurants 11 Jun 2025 Rapido worked with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) for six months to develop the commercial structure. Ownly, the food delivery app by the ride-hailing platform Rapido, will be launched in Bengaluru by month end. Swiggy and Zomato charge the restaurants 15-20% commission per order. It will levy a ₹25 fee per order for orders up to ₹400 and ₹50 for orders above ₹400. It will charge the customers a ₹20 delivery fee, but no platform fee. This model will ensure the restaurants will not incur losses due to the discounts offered by the food delivery apps to their customers. For restaurants unwilling to offer discounts, Ownly will provide tools and data to offer discounts to selected customers. Effectively, the cost of ordering from a restaurant will be the same as dining in. Rapido will start charging the restaurants a subscription fee to make the business viable.
