< Back 45-day Mahakumbh begins today 13 Jan 2025 Over six million devotees took a holy dip at Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, today. January 13th marked the beginning of the 45-day-long Mahakumbh, organised every twelve years. It will end on February 26th. This year’s Mahakumbh is notable for the rare celestial alignment occurring every 144 years. Visitors from across India and different countries will take a dip in Sangam, the convergence point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers. The Mahakumbh is the largest peaceful gathering of people globally. Around 400 million devotees are expected to attend the festival. - Rolling Stone, Variety owner sues Google over AI summaries | Salestors.com
< Back Rolling Stone, Variety owner sues Google over AI summaries 16 Sept 2025 This is the first time Google is being sued over AI-generated summaries that appear at the top of its search results. Penske Media, the owner of Rolling Stone, Variety, and Billboard, sued Google in the Washington, D.C., Federal Court. It claims that Google use its journalistic content without consent, thus reducing traffic to its websites. It alleges that around 20% of Google search results linked to Penske websites show AI overviews, and its revenue has fallen by over a third from 2024-end. Penske pointed out that Google includes publishers’ websites in search results only if it can use their content in AI summaries. It could impose such terms due to its search dominance. Without this, Google would end up paying the publishers for the right to republish their work or use it to train their AI systems. Penske attracts 120 million online visitors per month. Several news organisations have also argued that Google’s AI Overviews pull traffic away from their sites, thus hogging their ad and subscription revenue. - Govt to ease the process for imports from FTA countries | Salestors.com
< Back Govt to ease the process for imports from FTA countries 25 Jul 2024 The government has proposed to accept self-certification as proof of origin of goods from nations with whom India has Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). The interim budget is replacing the word ‘ certificate’ with ‘proof’ in section 28DA of the Customs Act. Currently, the import process demands a certificate of origin for customs clearance and payment of duties. Proof of origin is a declaration issued as per the trade agreement between two countries. It declares that the incoming goods fulfil the country of origin criteria and the trade agreement requirements. The process was simplified for two reasons. First, Chinese products are being imported to India via other countries with whom we have an FTA. Second, industry associations, especially those in the electronics sector, sought an easier import clearance process. After India’s issues with China, the origin certificates were being carefully scrutinised. But now, this move is expected to contribute to the ease of doing business in India. India’s imports grew from over USD 437 billion in FY2023 to USD 675.4 billion in FY2024. Previous Next
