Jeudi, le Parlement français a voté en faveur d’un contrôle de la production et de la vente d’articles contenant des PFAS à partir de janvier 2026. La proposition de loi empêchera la fabrication et la vente de produits dont on sait qu’il existe une alternative aux PFAS. Il rend également obligatoire l’analyse régulière de l’eau potable pour détecter la présence de toute PFAS. Les PFAS sont utilisés depuis les années 1940 pour fabriquer des revêtements antiadhésifs, imperméables et résistants aux taches. Ils mettent très longtemps à se dégrader et sont donc appelés « polluants éternels ». Les Verts l’ont présenté à l’Assemblée nationale, ou il a été adopté par 231 voix contre 51. Le président Emmanuel Macron va maintenant le signer. Il interdisait initialement les ustensiles de cuisines antiadhésifs, mais cette disposition a été supprimée à la suite d’un lobbying important de la part du propriétaire du fabricant français Tefal. The Ram Air Turbine (RAT) propeller deploys automatically from the 787 Dreamliner fuselage and functions as a backup generator in case both engines fail, hydraulic system pressures are low, the aircraft’s electric motor pumps stop working, or if cockpit instruments lose power. RAT can generate enough power to enable critical aircraft components to work properly. Investigators believe the RAT was working for AI 171 before it crashed, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Lone survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh’s testimony about hearing a loud bang followed by the flickering of cabin lights conforms with RAT deployment, as per aviation experts. Meanwhile, DGCA’s investigation revealed no safety concerns in Air India’s 787 fleet. AI 171 had its right engine replaced in March 2025. Singapore Airlines’ SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) is under scrutiny for being involved in Air India’s aircraft maintenance. It is also developing AI’s maintenance facilities in Bengaluru. After the Zee-Sony deal was cancelled in January 2024, Zee turned the situation around and posted a ₹13.35 crore profit in the quarter ending March 2024. This profit is attributed to the recovery in macro advertising spending, especially by FMCG consumers, and a 10.6% hike in domestic ad revenue in the last quarter of FY2024. It spent ₹366.59 crore till September 2023 on compliance and making many irreversible changes to ensure the success of the Sony deal. It earned ₹58.5 crore profit in Q3 FY2024. However, the two companies couldn't reach an agreement on leadership. By the time it was finalised, Sony decided to end the deal and sue Zee for a $90 million termination fee. Delays in seat certification by the US FAA are impacting the expansion plans of Akasa and Air India. Akasa uses Safran seats while Air India deploys Adient. FAA became cautious after the Boeing MAX crashes this year and the following scrutiny. Akasa overhired in the past two years, and now has 750 pilots, over half of whom are unable to fly due to the absence of aircraft. Its CEO mentioned all their pilots will begin flying in the next two months, Reuters reported. IndiGo sidestepped these delays by using Recaro seats and Airbus aircraft. Indian aviation regulations do not mandate the Head Injury Criterion (HIC), unlike the FAA and EASA (Europe). Akasa still hopes to have 40 aircraft in its fleet by March 2026 and around 54 by March 2027. It plans to go public through an IPO in the next 2-5 years and restart hiring pilots in 2026. < Back India, Croatia to strengthen trade ties 20 Jun 2025 This was the first visit to Croatia by an Indian Prime Minister after diplomatic ties were established in 1992. While visiting Croatia on June 18th, PM Modi announced enhanced defence cooperation between the two countries. India invited Croatian firms to invest in its coastal infrastructure development and shipbuilding. India will invest in Croatian semiconductors, clean tech, IT, and pharma industries. India will share its space expertise, and educational institutes of both countries will conduct research projects together. India finalised a five-year cultural exchange programme with Croatia and will soon sign a mobility agreement to facilitate people’s movement between the two countries. Croatia’s major ports, Rijeka, Ploce, and Split, are a part of the EU’s TEN-T network and support trans-European trade. These can offer an alternate entry into Europe in the troubled Suez Canal and Red Sea routes. Croatia is an EU and NATO member and can offer India access to their regulatory systems. On February 19th, Google inaugurated the ‘Ananta’ campus in Bengaluru, one of its largest globally. Located in Mahadevapura, Ananta spans over 1.6 million square feet and can accommodate more than 5,000 staff. It hosts a central gathering space called ‘Sabha’, tactile flooring for ease of navigation for the visually impaired, eco-friendly architecture with one of India’s largest installations of electrochromic glass, a sculpted fluid façade for architectural interest, and complete wastewater recycling. Ananta is constructed like a mini city with an elaborate street network for easy navigation, landscaped gardens, jogging routes, a gym, and compact neighbourhoods. Google is also about to finalise the locations for its retail stores in India, the only ones outside the US where it operates five outlets. Mirroring Apple, it aims to sell Pixel phones, earbuds, and smartwatches in these stores. The stores may span 15,000 square feet and take at least six months to inaugurate. After exploring various sectors for over two years, the Bajaj Group finalised the Healthcare sector. It hired one of the top three global consulting firms to shortlist a sector they could get into. The Bajaj family council chose this domain because of the high demand for hospital chains in metro cities and the increasing corporate culture in the healthcare sector. Nirav Bajaj, the MD of the Group’s steel venture, Mukand, is supervising the strategic decisions and will likely head the new healthcare entity. This new entity will mark the first significant diversification since the group lost its patriarch, Rahul Bajaj, in February 2022. The 98-year-old group is into automobiles, iron and steel, lighting, home appliances, insurance, travel and finance sectors. Spurred by the hike in inflation and raw material expenses, Maruti Suzuki and Audi plan to raise their car prices starting January 2024. Both car makers plan to increase the cost across their range of models. Maruti raised prices twice this year, in January and April. However, that did not impact its sales, which rose 11.4% between April and October this year. October 2023 turned out to be the best month for Maruti so far. It experienced a 20% hike in sales compared to the same period in 2022, and its market share increased to 43%. Citing rising operational costs and supply chain inputs, Audi announced plans to hike car prices by 2% next year. < Back India's PNG pipe dream 17 Apr 2026 Despite two decades of effort, only 16.2 million Indian homes, about 5% of all households, are connected to PNG, while over 330 million still rely on LPG. India consumes 26.5 million metric tonnes (mmt) of LPG annually but produces only 12.8 mmt. Since 90% of crude is imported, even domestic LPG is indirectly tied to global volatility. Although PNG networks are authorised across 307 geographical areas covering 98% of the population, last‑mile challenges, such as road digging, permissions, building constraints, and landlord approvals, slow actual household onboarding. Only 63% of installed PNG connections are active. City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, operating as local monopolies, prioritise industrial and CNG demand over households due to better economics. Meanwhile, domestic APM gas, critical for affordable PNG, is limited and declining, thus pushing companies toward costlier LNG. The recent West Asian war disrupted the LPG supply chain, prompting several Indian states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Gujarat, to accelerate PNG network expansion.
