Indigenous systems, like radar warning receivers and missile approach warning systems, will be created and supplied by Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited. Facilities for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) will also be set up to position India as a domestic and international regional servicing hub. As per the ₹13,500 crore equipment deal, Nokia will provide Vi with a 5G AirScale Network gear portfolio and upgrade the company’s existing 4G network with multiband radios and baseband equipment to support 5G. Vi recently announced its plans to buy ₹30,000 crore of 4G and 5G network gear from Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson over the next three years to boost its 4G operations and roll out 5G in major cities in 17 priority circles. As per the contract, Nokia will offer equipment for Vi in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Mumbai, Haryana, UP-East, UP-West, West Bengal, Kolkata and Tamil Nadu/Chennai markets. Ericsson and Nokia will supply 45% of Vi’s 4G and 5G gears, while Samsung will offer 10%. Ericsson may receive nine circles - Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Northeast, and Assam. Samsung may get Bihar and Odisha. < Back PayPal, Cashfree to apply for RBI license for cross-border transactions Ishita Nigam 6 Nov 2023 These payment aggregators must inform RBI of their cross border transactions within 60 days of applying for the license to continue their services. In a related move, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that foreign payment aggregators like PayPal, Paymate, and Cashfree will need a license from the central bank. Such companies awaiting the permit will have to keep RBI informed of all Payment Aggregator-Cross Border (PA-CB) guidelines. These guidelines rule the cross-border payments in and out of India. Till now, an authorised dealer or a sponsor bank facilitated these cross-border payments on foreign platforms. But as per RBI’s latest guidelines, a PA-CB can face penalties if they fail to abide. UPI payment channels like Google Pay and PhonePe may face similar regulations in the future. UPI transactions are at an all-time high. The overall transaction volume crossed 11 billion worth ₹17.16 lakh crores in October compared to 10.56 billion in September. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted the air operator permit to the new regional carrier FLY91 on March 6th. It will commence operations from Goa on March 18th. It can fly on 20 routes in the first year. It will expand to Agatti Airport in Lakshadweep in April and soon connect Pune, Jalgaon, and Sindhudurg from Goa. Next on the list are Noida and Navi Mumbai airports . It has two ATR 72-600 planes and plans to add four more in six months. Amazon’s Kuiper and Elon Musk-owned Starlink are still awaiting approval to offer satellite internet in India. The British Satellite Telecom firm Immarsat and OneWeb, backed by Eutelsat Bharti Enterprises, also obtained approval from IN-SPACe to operate satellite internet in India. Given the demand for satellite internet, especially in rural India, the market is expected to grow by 36% to reach ₹16,000 crore in the next five years. Boeing is the aircraft manufacturer, and Honeywell supplies the fuel cutoff switches. The complaint lodged on Tuesday accused the two companies of failing to address a known safety hazard. The locking mechanism on the switch in the 787-8 Dreamliner was prone to auto-cutoff or missing altogether. It is placed directly behind the thrust levers, which could lead to accidental shut-off, thus disrupting the fuel supply and thrust during take-off. The families allege Boeing and Honeywell knew about the hazard owing to a 2018 advisory issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about disengaged locking mechanisms on some Boeing planes. The Union Government rejected BYD’s $1 billion proposal to set up a factory in 2023. BYD has now received the government nod and is ready to set up a facility near Hyderabad. The Telangana government suggested three potential locations, which BYD is evaluating. It plans to increase production to 600,000 EVs yearly in the next 5-7 years. The state government implemented a new EV policy offering significant incentives, including a 100% exemption on road tax and registration fees for all EVs. This initiative is valid till December 31st, 2026. BYD’s 1 MW flash charger can fully charge a vehicle within 5-8 minutes, allowing its cars to travel up to 400 km after a single charge. It assembles and rolls out electric buses from a small base in Tamil Nadu.
