  • Why Unified Code for Pharma Marketing Practices is difficult to implement | Salestors.com

< Back Why Unified Code for Pharma Marketing Practices is difficult to implement 19 Mar 2024 The government implemented on March 12th a new code, UCPMP, to curb unethical practices in the pharma industry. The Unified Code for Pharma Marketing Practices (UCPMP) prohibits pharmaceutical companies from bribing doctors with paid foreign trips and hospitality stays, personal gifts for them and family members, monetary gifts for doctors, agents or distributors, or any cash payments or grants for doctors and their family members. It mandates that individual companies disclose any sponsorships for conferences and medical courses. However, there is no portal setup to report this. Industry experts believe this Code will be less effective since it is non-statutory and not enforced by a regulatory authority. It is not a law, and players in the Indian pharmaceutical industry will easily beat around it to incentivise medical professionals. Pharma associations need to form an ethics committee and create a portal linked to the pharma department, which will house an independent panel to audit such expenses. A code breach can lead to suspension of the entity from the association. Previous Next

< Back IndiGo to launch business class seats this year 24 May 2024 The low-cost carrier announced this plan along with its record profit figure of ₹8,172.50 crore in FY2024. IndiGo announced on Thursday its plans to introduce business class on the busiest routes in India before the end of 2024. Thirty-five of IndiGo’s planes will be fitted with eight rows of business-class seats. The company will release further product details around its 18th anniversary in August. Its low-cost model and charging for all extra services and food on board catapulted the airline to the top position in the country with a 60% market share. The airline management wants to leverage this position to scale up in the international market. Currently, only Air India, Vistara, and Air India Express’ 737 MAX8 operate business-class seats in India. Previously, Jet Airways alone offered over 10,000 business class seats per week before its closure in April 2019. This number has plummeted to around 7,000 now. Last month, IndiGo surpassed American Southwest Airlines to become the world's third-largest airline by market capital. Previous Next

  • Self-declaration for ads mandated only for food and health sectors | Salestors.com

< Back Self-declaration for ads mandated only for food and health sectors 5 Jul 2024 The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) eased the earlier rule and made it mandatory only for the food and health sectors. However, there is another Supreme Court hearing on July 9th on this matter. The Supreme Court of India passed an order on May 7th mandating all advertising bodies to issue a Self Declaration Certificate (SDC) for all ads on TV, radio, print, or the internet broadcasted after June 18th. The idea was to crack down on misleading advertising. Following an uproar and multiple meetings with various industry bodies, MIB issued a fresh directive on July 3rd. Now, the SDC must be issued only for food and health-related ads. Food and health products and services providers will need to manually upload an annual SDC on the Press Council of India website for print and internet ads and the Broadcast Seva website for TV and radio ads. Proof of uploading will need to be submitted to the concerned media stakeholders, like newspapers and TV channels, for record keeping. This fresh order relieves media houses from the responsibility of checking and validating the SDCs. Previous Next

< Back US Airlines saving time and costs with new strategies and tools 27 Nov 2023 While the time saved may look insignificant, it reduced costs and higher operational efficiency for an industry that is perpetually bleeding. Airlines in the US have started relying on various tech and strategies to help save time, which could translate to reduced costs and better operating efficiency. American Airlines deployed Machine Learning for flight gate allocation to save an average of two minutes of taxi time for every flight, a reduction of 20%, and hours of gate planning time. This translated as up to 11 hours saved daily, and numerous gate changes and conflicts cut down drastically. Airlines have also saved 1.4 million gallons of fuel annually and reduced CO2 emissions by 13,400 metric tonnes per year. Besides, United Airlines saved two minutes per flight by boarding economy class passengers first, followed by the middle and the aisle. Southwest Airlines uses better signage and music on the bridge for faster boarding. Frontier has started using staircases directly to and from its Airbus’ second door to expedite boarding.
