- Apple caught in a horde of anti-trust probes in the US | Salestors.com
< Back Apple caught in a horde of anti-trust probes in the US 22 Dec 2023 Over a dozen companies approached the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the tech giant for anticompetitive behaviour. Over 12 technology advocacy groups wrote to the US Department of Justice requesting an investigation into Apple’s anticompetitive behaviour. Apple recently blocked Beeper, the messaging service that made iMessage compatible with Android devices through its app Beeper Mini. The move triggered a reaction from a horde of advocacy groups, like Demand Progress, the American Economic Liberties Project, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Fight for the Future. Beeper Mini allowed Android users to experience iMessage features like tapbacks, blue bubbles, and end-to-end encrypted messaging between Android and iPhone users. The DOJ has been probing Apple for anti-trust issues since 2020. Tech Oversight Project’s letter to the American judicial body called out Apple for favouring its products and issuing unfair policies for third-party apps and app marketplace. An ongoing anti-trust investigation in Europe could roll out a judgement in early 2024 against Apple’s control over the app marketplace and impose a fine. Previous Next
Previous Next
- Despite capacity hikes, renewable energy facing admin, financial hurdles | Salestors.com
< Back Despite capacity hikes, renewable energy facing admin, financial hurdles 19 Mar 2025 India increased solar capacity by a record-breaking 24.5 GW and wind capacity by 3.4 GW in 2024. Towards the target of 500 GW of renewable power capacity by 2030, India doubled its solar capacity and pushed its wind capacity by 21% between 2023 and 2024. Solar power accounts for 47% of the total renewable installed capacity, with Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Gujarat leading the charts. However, 38.3 GW of renewable capacity was cancelled between 2020 and 2024. This occurred due to technical and location challenges, delays in signing power supply agreements and land acquisition, and tender design problems, such as tariff caps, unflexible contracts, and unrealistic bidding conditions that discouraged developers from participating in such projects. Payment delays from power distribution companies and financial instability also contributed to cancellations. Globally, continued expansion of renewable energy often leads to grid disturbances, oversupply, and negative energy prices (when producers pay consumers to consume excess electricity). China reduced subsidy-driven incentives, and Europe now restricts the promotion of renewables. Never miss another post from SalestorrsNews150. - Movies no longer getting OTT deals until the theatrical release | Salestors.com
< Back Movies no longer getting OTT deals until the theatrical release 6 May 2024 Some high-profile movies lost their OTT deals after box office failures. From the early to mid-2000s, TV platforms like Sony, Star, Viacom18, and Zee engaged in a bidding war to secure a movie’s streaming rights, sometimes before it went into production. OTT followed the same practice. Online streaming platforms offered a price based on the box office figures of the lead actor’s last movie. Since projections are not working now, OTT platforms are striking staggered deals in parts. They pay a percentage before theatrical release, and the contracts offer them the option to terminate the agreement in case of commercial failure. OTT platforms still buy big titles at a negotiated price but refrain from absorbing duds in their catalogue. They also decline deals on the grounds that films do not meet their standards. Until 2022, movies were released online within four weeks of theatrical launch, which was increased to eight weeks from August 1st, 2022. Previous Next
